Chapter 5: Oriental Punch

ORIENTAL PUNCH is a capsule collection, featuring a fusion of traditional Chinese garment detailing and modernised silhouette complemented with feminine floral prints.

The various prints are inspired by a combination of Juniper trees and berries and one of the twelve symbols of sovereignty which appear on the five-clawed dragon robes of a Chinese imperial authority figure — seaweed.

The name Juniper is derived from the Latin word juniperus, a combination of the word junio, which means young, and parere, which means to produce. Hence this collection can be seen as youth producing, or evergreen.

The seaweed is one of the five elements (water, fire, earth, air and metal), which represents purity. Furthermore it is the noble symbol of the emperor’s leadership.

Oriental Punch chooses to break the status quo of traditional Chinese New Year garments by introducing the color black into the collection. In many diverse cultures, black is consistently associated with power, elegance and equality especially in modern times. Oriental Punch ties in black with sophisticatedly-coloured and printed outfits.

The silhouettes in this collection adds lightness to them, fabrics used were weightless yet fluid enough to highlight the shape of a woman’s figure.
